Coronavirus Update

Datchet Water Sailing Club is currently only open to members. New members are welcome & winter membership is now available.

11th September 2020 – A message from the Club Commodore:

Dear Members,

Thank you for your continued support and patience. Your club staff and committee members have put in a tremendous effort to ensure first the survival of the club and secondly the delivery of services to you.

You will have seen from the 15 second update that we have surpassed the 1000 sailing and windsurfing sessions since reopening, we have Sunday and Wednesday night racing back and have even extended our Wednesday evening racing for the first time into September. We are looking forward to a full start line for the club championships this weekend. Our Young Adult group have set up a social group, and we welcome back the 20 knot squad. With our windsurfing membership doubling since last year we are now set to run some windsurf coaching sessions.

However it is not all good news. Our training and events calendar has been seriously disrupted while our activities have been curtailed. We are increasingly adding more training activities as we develop safe methods of delivery. Training is a major source of membership and income. Both these areas have been hit but we thank you all for spreading the word about membership and helping us to weather this storm.

We have been working with the RYA and Class Associations to see how we can deliver sailing and windsurfing events in a Covid safe way for the competitors whilst maintaining a safe environment for members and staff and ensuring the continuation of club sailing and racing for members.

We believe we have achieved this and will be putting on a series of events this Autumn. It is true that most clubs are not hosting events however we are uniquely positioned with our major beach for launching and our ability to park at the bottom. We will be bringing in portaloos to ensure that members continue to use club facilities and visiting competitors and parents use outside facilities.

Thank you for adhering to the government guidelines and the club protocols. We have updated these protocols for events and ask you to continue to support us.

The new protocols can be viewed in the members area of the website.

Our priority remains the safety and health of members and staff and we appreciate your support during this time. Any member displaying or suffering from symptoms of Covid 19 should follow the government guidelines and self isolate and stay at home.

Thank you all for your continued support. Enjoy your sailing and we look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to Datchet Water Sailing Club

Whatever your sailing style you’ll find a warm welcome and great sailing area at Datchet Water Sailing Club.

Our home, on the Queen Mother Reservoir has one of the longest runs across the water of any inland sailing area, and is easy to reach, almost on the junction of the M25 and M4.

We are a friendly crowd and anyone who wants to sail from beginners to experts is welcome.   Our members sail and race regularly with club support, training and

development to build confidence and skills.

As well as great sailing, there are lots of additional social events, open meetings and training opportunities, for all ages.
