RYA VHF Course - 11 Spaces Available

The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law for individuals who will be operating VHF and DSC equipment whether fixed or portable within the UK.

Having a radio onboard is a crucial piece of safety equipment and it is imperative to grasp the correct protocols.

Following the course an examination promptly asses your ability while the material is still fresh.

Key areas covered include:

  • ---> Regular operation of marine VHF radio, incorporating Digital Selective Calling.
  • ---> Appropriate VHF channels for various communication types.
  • ---> Protocols for distress, emergency, and medical assistance situations.
  • ---> Ship-to-shore communication procedures.
  • ---> Practical application of Marine VHF DSC radios.
  • ---> Understanding the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
  • ---> Familiarity with Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB).
  • ---> Knowledge of Search and Rescue Transponders (SART).
    • Throughout the training, participants will utilize practice radio sets, dedicating substantial time to hands-on experience.

The RYA exam fee is £76 and is on top of the course price. This must be paid direct to the RYA in advance of your course.
