Relay Race

Sat 11th July

The teams:

We therefore have a total of 9 double-handed boats, which we will split into 3 teams: in each team there will be 2 Fireflies and 1  Z420.

Colours: Team (1) Blue, (2) Red and (3) White with coloured streamers/ribbons from the tip of the mast and ribbons on the shrouds.

The competitors:

We therefore need 18 competitors in all

I will recruit and select on the basis that one member of each boat must be 18 or under. It doesn't matter whether the youngster is the helm or the crew. So I am aiming for 9 adults and 9 youngsters. All in costume!

The aim of the Relay Race:

The wining team will complete the greatest number of laps in exactly 2 hours: 15.00 to 17.00.

Format:

We will start with 3 Fireflies (blue, red and white) at 15.00, all boats on the starting line. The "baton" is a swimming "noodle", which is colourful and cheap!

The leading boat - say blue team -  completes the first lap and sails into a "box" in the last leg (beam reach) of the "M" -shaped course, the leg designated for the handover. The next boat - I suggest it should be a Z420 - in the same team comes alongside the Firefly to take over the "baton". After completing  the lap, the Z420 hands the baton to their team's second Firefly, and then the first Firefly, and so on, and on.

There could be difficulties in transferring the "baton", which is light and easy to blow away in the transfer. The boat which loses its noodle has no rights and has to keep clear of all other boats.

A separate prize for the best dressed team!

I think it is going to be fun.
