Dinghies are probably the most diverse group at Datchet Water Sailing Club, The classes sailed tend to be symmetrical centre board boats. The main classes are Lasers, full rig, radials and 4.7 and Wayfarers. Among the other classes that have a presence are Contenders, Fireballs, OK, RS300, Phantom and Laser 2 to mention but a few.
Racing is friendly and safe with a competitive edge. There is a wide range of abilities ranging from novice to the more experienced; juniors to seniors; family teams, racing in training and cruising boats to purpose built racing machines. There is no need to be intimidated as all abilities will be taken in to consideration. The emphasis is on having fun and simply being on the water as well as socialising on a regular basis.
If you are new to sailing or are unsure of what boat to sail it would make sense to look towards one of the main classes as a first option ensuring that you are part of a developing fleet, giving an increased sense of community, not to mention the help, advice and training that you will receive. However, whichever class you choose, you will be made most welcome. Details below of some of the fleets.
There are also opportunities to crew; this is an ideal way to gain experience and to get to know the club and meet people. Boats are also available for hire to Club Members. The fleet captains will be pleased to deal with enquiries and offer advice.
