Winter Warm Up – Week 1

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Twenty Six boats braved gusts of 30 knots for the first two races of the Winter Warm Up series. Many more potential sailors observed from the safety and comfort of the club house preserving their effort for the next 3 weekends. Unfortunately those who made a hasty retreat from the cancelled sailing at Rutlands Tiger Trophy failed to make the start line on time but look forward to sailing next week.

Remember with 2 discards in the 8 race event, if you did not compete today you can still sail the 6 required races over the next 3 weekends.

Datchet News Blog

Following the example of the Flying Fifteen Fleet your webmaster has started a Blog Site in order to provide a far quicker and easier way to deliver news to club members. Although the front page of the main website may look a little untidy to start with, the benefits for the office should outweigh this small inconvenience.

One small issue seems to be the way links in articles work. They are fine if you go to the full page of the blog site but do not always work from the frame on the front page of our main website. We will try to address this issue in the next few weeks.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions on this blog site please let us know.

Magic Marine Topper Winter Championships

29 January 2011 (afternoon)

A successful but chilly first day of the Magic Marine Topper Winter Championships saw 220 boats taking to the water for two races. Competitors have travelled from as far as Scotland and Cornwall. The floating beach helped tremendously with launching and only one person managed to become totally immersed – Mike Beckett!

DWSC Members: For Sunday 30th we have allocated areas for club sailors and their boats so there should be no major problems, however, it is worth allowing an extra 10 minutes for your cup of coffee in the morning!

29 January 2011 (morning)

Datchet welcomes the Magic Marine Topper Winter Championships this weekend. 220 young sailors have launched and all is going well with a lovely force 2.

** IMPORTANT – Note to Sunday racers **

The 220 (!) visiting Toppers will boat at 09.45h Sunday morning I.e. before the club racers boat. This should allow normal club racing to happen smoothly.
