On Tuesday 26th july 2011, the Datchet 20 KT squad awoke to the sound of Norfolk interuption and neighbours screaming. In the morning slow hadicap race, Dan and Lucas stormed away in the Feva getting a solid 4th.

In the fast handicap race Huw and Harry had a slow start to the day coming 5th in their class in the first race. However throughout the day picked up the pace and scored a dangerious but solid 2nd place to add to their overall position in the fleet (5th)

In the Laser Radial Matthew Walmsey got off to a cracking start allowing him to gain a place upon the previous day. Unfortunatly due to a controvertial protest(s) he lost his lead from the morning.

In the Topper fleet, James and Matt had an eventful morning. In the first race Matt well placed in the field beating 25 other competitors with James Tailor right on his tail.

Tomorrow the DWSC NSSA team shall be racing in the Mount Hayes trophy in Xenons (Huw Whitworth and Harry Wilson) the all comers persuit race ( Lucas in a laser and Matthew Walmsey and James Talor in the feva) & the single handers cup in toppers ( Dan Jones and Matt Firth).

Sunshine, and pretty gusty winds greeted competitors at the club for the first Purple Marine sponsored Purple Pursuit weekend. A 120 minute race on Saturday afternoon was followed by a BBQ, RaftBuilding, and great music in the bar, from Live Band “Something About Whisky”, with free drinks for the purplest outfit of the evening. 10% of all monies raised went to Sail 4 Cancer.

62 Entrants, and a wide variety of boats took to the water for the 2.00 pm start, on Saturday with some exciting sailing and plenty of capsizing in very brisk winds. First over the line were Tom Gillard and Sam Breary from Sheffield Viking/Fisher Green in Fireball15041, with 2 of Datchet’s formidable flying fifteen fleet behind, Andy Clark/Mark Edwards in 2nd and John Bashford/Paul Whitworth 3rd.

After an evening of conviviality in the bar, and ignoring any sore heads, race 2 on Sunday saw Datchet’s own Stuart Jones (Contender) romp home to 1st place, from John Browett’s Contender.  Race 3 turned into a fierce battle between Stuart Jones and  Tom Gillard/Sam Breary, with Stuart’s Contender taking first place from the Fireball by half a boat length.  Overall Results:  1st  Stuart Jones (Contender), 2nd: Tom Gillard/Sam Breary (Fireball) and 3rd Andy Clark/Mark Edwards (Flying Fifteen).

Prizes were provided by Purple Marine.

All in all a great weekend – lots of sun and breeze, some great visitors, the real showers held off until after close of play in Sunday and we look forward to a repeat of this weekend next year.
