This is my first attempt at pasting a blog to the new website – so apologies if it doesn’t work! The fleet results sheet is update to include the Autumn Series results, including the Ridgeway Trophy, and the Castle Cup
The Results of today’s Winter Regatta races have been posted here: –
Looked like there was some quite exciting racing out there.
Next up is the Boxing Day Bottle Race.
Mike Clapp – Race Officer
The Winter Regatta is this Sunday before the Club Christmas Lunch. Sailing Instructions for this are here: –
There are two Wednesday evening style handicap races back to back with the first start at 10.30 am (standard 5,4,1,Go sequence). Each will have a single start using an average lap-time handicap system. This means that everyone needs to go through the Start/Gate/Finish line on each lap and will be finished the first time they cross the line after the shorten course symbol is hoisted. The first race will use a trapezoid course while for the second this will be swapped to a “P” course.
If anyone has any questions I will arrange a briefing for 9.30 am in the Wet Bar.
The forecast currently looks like we should have plenty of wind.
Mike Clapp – Race Officer
We look forward to seeing you for Christmas Lunch on Sunday after racing.
If you would like to give a sailing voucher as a Christmas present please order before Sunday and we can have them ready. VR Superstore will be open.

Just to avoid any confusion caused by previous posts, this is to confirm that the last Sunday of the Club Autumn Series is this coming Sunday – 6th December. This will be sailed under the current standard club Sailing Instructions (i.e. 1025 start, 4 start groups and Sausage/Triangle or Windward/Leeward courses).
The following Sundays are then:
13th – Sunday of Datchet Flyer – club members are invited to take part in the Pursuit Race with the first start at 11.00 am on Sunday morning for free. To enter the whole event please go to http://events.sailracer.org/eventsites/content.asp?id=43970&eventid=203845
20th – Winter Regatta – two single start handicap races starting at 10.30 am – followed by Christmas Lunch and Autumn Series Prize-giving. Provisional Sailing Instructions are here http://www.dwsc.co.uk/2015/WinterRegattaSIs2015.pdf.
27th – Club Closed – why not come to the Bottle Race on the 26th instead?
3rd January – Start of Club Winter Series (11 am start, 2 start groups and a selection of courses).
A provisional set of Sailing Instructions for the Club Winter Series has just been published to http://www.dwsc.co.uk/ClubWinterSeriesSIs.pdf. Due to the way the dates fall in December this year the series will just be for the five Sundays in January with two races back to back each day.
In summary the changes are: –
1. The two initial starts will be at 3 minute intervals with the first start at 11 am.
2. The number of starts is reduced to two.
a. Start A will combine the existing start 1 and 2 and will use the Naval Numeral 3 flag
b. Start B will combine the Asymmetric and Catamaran starts and use the Naval Numeral 4 flag
3. Race Officers will have a choice of 3 courses to decide between.
a. The existing triangle/sausage course. If there is nothing indicated on the White boards (in the club house and/or on the committee boat), or with a flag, this will be the course we will use.
b. “Course A” which is a trapezoidal course with a gate part way up the beat. This will be indicated by Flag A flying on the committee boat and a diagram on the white boards. Start B will just sail the windward/leeward part of the course but respect the gate.
c. “Course C” which is a 4 or P course with a gate part way up the beat. This will be indicated by Flag C flying on the committee boat and a diagram on the white boards. Start B will just sail the windward/leeward part of the course but respect the gate.
4. The normal number of laps will apply for the “standard” course. For Course A and C you will pass through the gate on each windward leg and be finished once the shorten course symbol is flown. Each race is intended to last between 45 minutes and an hour.
5. It is the intention that Course A and C will be used alternate weekends unless the wind direction means there is no room to place the leeward mark. In this case the standard triangle/sausage course will be used.
