2012 Wednesday Evening Series

The DWSC Wednesday Evening Series is traditionally one of the most popular racing series in the club.  It is intended as an informal and fun event to encourage new people to race and provide a mid week practice session for our regular sailors.  For 2010 we have made a few minor changes to the series.  These are detailed below.

Dates

Rising Sun Series:            2nd May until 20th June at 7.30 pm

Setting Sun Series:           27th June until 22nd August at 7.30 pm (except 22nd August which will start at 7.00)

Overall Series:                  2nd May until 22nd August at 7.30 pm

Solstice Series::               Monday 20th June to Thursday 23rd June at 7.30 pm

Guidelines for competitors

1.        Racing should be fun and safe.

2.        Races are often busy with a huge variety of boat speeds and participant capabilities so it is important that everyone sticks to the normal racing rules.

3.        Count the number of laps you complete and confirm this afterwards on the signing in sheet.  (This should help produce correct results first time round.)

4.        One start for all.

5.        Usual 5, 4, 1, go signal format

Race Officers

Wednesday Evening Race Officers volunteer to provide this service as an extra duty.  Karol Schlachter has already found the majority of people we need but is still looking to fill the remaining gaps.  Please ask the office for his contact details if you are prepared to volunteer.  The individual race officers will also be looking for volunteers to help them out so if you would like to learn all about how the races are run please contact anyone listed on the Race Officer’s page.   Race teams will be awarded average points in the series for the race they run.

Results

It is our intention to ask the race team to enter the results into Sailwave and publish the results on the evening. Basic Instructions on how to use the software will be posted here.  If you have any problems on the night please ask Mike Clapp.  Please remember to send the completed results to Mike for publishing on the website.

This year the Cats will be scored using the PY handicap system.  To work out these handicaps we will multiple the SCHRS handicap number by 686.  Separate prizes will still be awarded to the Catamaran fleet along with any other individual classes that get significant numbers of attendees.  The Series Results will be published on an overall basis and a fleet basis.

Discard rate same as other club series which is 50% + 1 to count.
