What the above table does not show is the speed with which the wind
direction changed, The wind swung very quickly just after 11am.
The speed of change disorientated some competitors for a short
while! The severe change in wind direction also caused a few
problems for a short while with the alignment of the finish line.
The competitors all felt more comfortable with the weather conditions
and two of the starts had General Recalls. However it seems some
competitors in the Aysmmetric classes who are sailing windward/leeward
courses have not read the Sailing Instructions. The course signalled was
a Starboard hand course but there were reports of boats leaving the
marks to port. Point for next weeks briefing, I think!
As boats finished race 1 they were wondering where the start boat
was. Due to the major wind shift it had been repositioned at the
opposite end of the reservoir.
This week the club used a computer program for controlling the
starting signals and this worked well. The same program can record
finish times by sensing when a remote button is pressed and this was
used for recording the finish times for race 2, again the program worked
well.
The series continues on next two Sundays, February 16th and 23rd.
