WINTER WARM-UP SERIES

Organised by Datchet Water Sailing Club at Queen Mother Reservoir Horton Road, Slough, SL3 9NT

To be held on

2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd February 2003

 

1. The Rules

Racing will be governed by the "rules" as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2001-2004, the Prescriptions of the RYA, this Notice of Race except as any of these are changed by the sailing instructions, and the Sailing Instructions of the Datchet Water Sailing Club.

2. Conditions of Entry

2.1 The Series is open to the following classes and such other classes as Datchet Water Sailing Club may approve.

29er, 49er, B14, Blaze, Boss, Breeze, Buzz, Contender, Dart 18, Europe, Fireball, Flying Fifteen, Formula 18 Cats, Hobie 16, Hobie FX1, Hurricane 5.9, ISO, Laser, Laser 2, Laser 4000, Laser 5000, Musto Skiff, RS 200, RS300, RS400, RS600, RS700, RS800, Stealth, Spitfire and Wayfarer.

2.2 To be eligible to enter the Series or any race in the Series, Competitors must either:
be paid up members of Datchet Water Sailing Club and have completed the relevant entry form: or,
have completed the relevant entry form for an Open Meeting and paid the entry fee; or,
have been invited by a member of Datchet Water Sailing Club with the prior approval of its Sailing Committee, or its Officers, and have completed the entry form and paid the entry fee.

3. Responsibility

3.1 The safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/person in charge who must ensure that the boat and crew are adequate to face the conditions that may arise in the course of the race. Neither these sailing instructions nor any inspection of the boat limits or reduces the absolute responsibility of the owner/person in charge for the crew, the boat and her management.

3.2 The race organizers shall not be responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/person in charge or crew, as a result of their taking part in the race or races. Moreover, every owner/person in charge warrants the suitability of the boat for the race or races.

3.3 It shall be the sole responsibility of those sailing each boat to decide whether or not to start or to continue to race.

3.4 Boats shall be insured for a minimum of £2,000,000 Third Party Liability.

4. Entry Fee

The Entry fee (for non-members of Datchet Water Sailing Club), which includes boat parking or wet mooring for the month of February will be:
£25 for single handed boats
£35 for all other boats

5. Entry Procedure

Competitors may enter on 2nd & 9th February 2003 from 09.00 a.m. but no later than 10.30 on 9th February. Sailing Instructions and any amendments thereto will be issued on registration.

6. Provisional Schedule of Races

6.1 8 races are scheduled, of which 3 must be completed to constitute a series. It is the intention that 2 races will be sailed back to back each day, but the Race Committee may in its absolute discretion sail more than 2 races on any one day.

6.2 The Divisions to race and the Classes in the Divisions with the proposed order and times of starts are as follows:

6.3 The Race Committee may in its absolute discretion vary the times, classes, number of laps, marks and order of starts set out above.

6.4 The Race Committee may in its absolute discretion allocate any class, permitted to enter the Series, to a particular Division.

6.5 The Sailing Instructions may prescribe Alternative Marks, Course or Courses.

7. Scoring System

7.1 The Low Points Scoring System set out in RRS Appendix A will apply.

7.2 Points for race ties will not be divided. This changes Appendix A7

7.3 The following discards will apply:
If 3 or less races are sailed, no discard will be allowed;
If 4 to 6 races are sailed, 1 discard will be allowed.
If 7 or 8 races are sailed, 2 discards will be allowed.

7.3 Members of Datchet Water Sailing Club who are entered in the Series and who undertake a club duty during the Series will be awarded average points of all races they started for the race or races they missed.

8. Prizes

8.1 Prizes will be awarded:
for any class with 6 or more boats entered by 10:30 AM on 9th February 2003 provided that a minimum of 6 boats of that class started 50% of the races sailed in the series;
in respect of classes with less than 6 or more boats, for the overall handicap within each of the designated 5 Divisions.

8.2 The number of prizes in each category will be the square root, rounded up, of the number of entries in each class or of the number of handicap entries in each Division.

9. Handicaps

9.1 Handicap ratings will be as published in the current edition of RYA YR2 except that the Race Committee may in their absolute discretion:
vary any handicap rating;
allocate a rating to any class not listed in RYA YR2.
