All this training is carried out in-house following RYA Courses.
When fully trained the Safety Coxswain will be rostered for one
half-day or three-quarter day duty every six to eight weeks, depending
on the sailing calendar. The roster is organised by the Racing Committee
and training is organised the Training Committee.
At the present time the Club has five fast-planing craft available
for safety work and three displacement boats for start/finish and towing
duties.
All Safety Coxswains are equipped with two-way radios for contact
with shore and other safety & committee boats.
If you are interested in becoming a Safety Coxswain, an application
form is available from the Club Office.
The training is free to full club members who agree to undertake Club
safety boat duties.
(WebMaster Note - Safety
Boat Procedures is a web page written by the Rescue Chiefs of CORK
(Canadian Olympic Sail Training Regatta, Kingston), which you might
wish to read.)
If there is any one who would like to bring there own RIB to an
event, please contact the club first. Only those boats invited by
Datchet Water Sailing Club will be allowed to launch. It is usual
for a Datchet Water Sailing Club Safety Coxswain to be aboard each
additional Safety Boat. If it is felt that there is a requirement
for additional boats for other purposes, e.g. photography and/or filming
please contact the club.
