DWSC wants to train and develop the Powerboating skills of all JYS members with the aim of taking part in the Honda RIB Championships event in 2010 and using their qualifications to potentially become a qualified Dinghy Instructor.  

 

In order for the Club to qualify for the Honda RIB Championships, we are looking to develop the boat handling skills and experiences of all junior Club members so they may take part in the championship trails and qualifier events with the ultimate goal of winner a new RIB for the Club at the Southampton Boat Show in 2010.

 

If this Powerboat session proves popular and JYS members are interested, additional training sessions will be arranged to prepare all powerboat drivers for the championship course design and set-up.

 

Junior Club members who wish to take part in the Honda RIB Championship training must be qualified to a minimum of RYA Powerboat Level 2 standard, which courses are available on the following dates:

 

Tuesday 18 August / Wednesday 19 August 2009 (2 days)

 

Or

 

Thursday 20 August / Friday 21 August 2009 (2 days)

 

Or

 

Saturday 12 September / Saturday 19 September 2009 (2 days)

 

Or

 

Saturday 26 September / Saturday 3 October 2009 (2 days)

 

All Powerboat courses cost £125 for Club members with the minimum age 13.

 

All qualified junior members who have gained their RYA Powerboat Level 2 will also be encouraged to assist Club Safety Coxswains with their Club Safety Boat duties and with the major events hosted by the Club as a means of gaining additional powerboating experiences.
