Everyone involved with JYS are invited to a free BBQ hosted by the Club with Chef Ed at the helm - that includes all racers, instructors and adult helpers

 

Announcing the Start of the new JYS Programme and the introduction of our Topper Fleet

 

Starting on Sunday 6th September at the end of the summer holidays, the new JYS autumn programme is starting up with a big difference.  To encourage new and existing JYS members to commit to a specific training programme, JYS will now be run using a term programme to fit in with  the school terms.  

 

To provide junior Club members with the best opportunity to train and race in a recognised fleet, DWSC is pleased to announce that we are now the proud owners of six new Toppers, which can be found on the beach alongside the Club’s fleet of Topaz boats.  

 

The purpose of these new boats is to establish a Topper Squad at the Club and start training and  competing at both Club and major events - both locally and nationally.  All JYS members who wish to use these new Toppers must attend the first JYS shakedown session and demonstrate their sailing and boat handling skills to be selected for the Topper Squad.  

 

To develop and promote the race skills and experience of all junior Club members and with more and more young sailors completing their RYA Stage 3 and 4 over the summer, the autumn JYS programme has been designed to introduce new members to racing whilst developing the skills of existing JYS members, who will have the opportunity to progress into the Topper Squad.

 

JYS members who have been selected for the Topper squad will have access to the Club Toppers for one year.  After this time, it is expected that Topper Squad members will give up their boat for new squad members to progress into.  Working alongside Topper International, it will be possible to buy the Club Topper at a second hand market value, which will allow junior members to own their own boat at a responsible price and allow the Club to renew the boats on a regular basis.

 

All JYS sessions will still cost £5 per session and any junior member requiring a club boat will also need to pay £5 per session to cover the use of the boat.  All JYS members will be required to sign up to the six session term programme in advance and make a payment of £30 or £60 if requring a Club boat.  Advance payment is necessary to ensure regular attendance and will also allow Club boats to be reserved for each session.

 

This will be the last session of the term with the beginner / intermediate fleet breaking up for the winter.  The advanced Topper and Vibe fleet with have the opportunity to take part in the winter training programme - details to follow soon.
