| Datchet has grown since its formation
in 1976, into one of the most successful sailing clubs in the country.
Within its 3.2 mile boundary, which is 66 feet above the surrounding
ground level, there are some 475 acres of sailing water (8,300 million
gallons when London is not too thirsty!). It is deep,
over 75 feet when full, and offers excellent sailing.
Datchet Water Sailing Club is just off the M4
about 10 minutes drive west from the M4 junction with the M25 (near
Heathrow).

From M4
Take a look at the traffic on various parts of the
M4 via BBC
Berkshire Traffic Cameras. Also Honda, who have their new
European headquarters close to the club, have installed some web cameras
on the roof of the building and these provide some views of the M4
traffic; the web cameras can be accessed using the link, http://www.honda.co.uk/webcam/index.html.
Come off the M4 at junction 5 and head for
Colnebrook, i.e. heading East towards London on the A4, and then
Horton. You will pass a BP garage on your left there is a set of traffic
lights by the garage. At these lights you want to be in the
right-hand lane to enable you to be in the correct lane to enter the
roundabout and take the first exit leaving a car sale garage on your
left. In approximately 3/4 mile you will come to another BP garage on
your right, follow the road around the hairpin bend and the club
entrance is approximately 1/2 mile on your right.
From M25
An alternative route to the club is via
M25 J14 (Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 exit) via Poyle and Horton, i.e.
opposite direction to Terminal 4!
 | If travelling clockwise (heading
towards M4) take the first exit on the overhead roundabout at M25
J14, signposted Poyle and Datchet.
 | If travelling anticlockwise (heading
towards M3) take fourth exit on the overhead roundabout at M25 J14,
signposted Poyle and Datchet. |
|
At next small roundabout (approx. 300
metres) take first exit and stay on that road for 2 miles until you
enter Horton village; having passed pub and church on left, 100 metres
beyond church turn right. Follow road, minding several nearside
potholes for 1 mile and the club entrance is on left. (Note - if there
has been a lot of rain this route will have large amounts of water in
places extending a long way across the road. The water can be
quite deep!
Club Entrance
The club have installed a road blocker at
the entrance to the club to help improve security. Please only drive
over the barrier when the GREEN light is showing, the same applies when
exiting the club.
We look forward to seeing you at the club.

A satellite view of the reservoir
used to be available at the Microsoft Terraserver website, however
this has now been transferred to the Terraserver
website, the photograph was taken at 4:54pm on Tuesday 8th December
1987 by a Russian satellite. Terraserver have been revamping the
images since October 1999 and some images are not currently available
including this one!
The Millennium
Map Company is claiming large coverage of the UK as part of its
contribution to the millennium; the Heathrow, Datchet & Windsor
area is now available on their commercial web site GetMapping.com.
The image of Datchet was taken when the water level was down to at
least the lower beach level and the zoom level is quite
something! I am sorry I cannot give you an exact URL, but it is
not possible or least I have not found a way of getting it.
