The more
adventurous members join in our Sunday racing. Every Sunday, come rain,
shine or wind, there will be a dedicated group of cat owners battling it
out to see who is the fastest. The fleet prides itself on its relaxed
approach to racing. On the water friendly competition leads to a very
relaxed "after the sailing" atmosphere where members will recall
their various experiences. Two races are organised each Sunday. It is not
obligatory to enter any or either of the Sunday races. Indeed, many
members have won prizes by just completing a few morning races.
At Datchet, we sail an Olympic course. Any newcomers
to racing should not be alarmed. It is very simple and there is always
someone to show you how it works. For those more experienced cat sailors,
we maintain close links with the multi-hull industry and encourage our
members to compete in national and international events.
Throughout the year, the fleet organises DatCat
events. These events are published well in advance so that members can
plan their non sailing activities. Some DatCat events
involve an away trip to open meetings or long distance events such as
"The East Coast Piers Race". Other events are held at home and
the whole season concludes in a Christmas dinner party where prizes for
the year are distributed. There are many special prizes awarded. The most
prestigious prize (The Splat Prize) is for the most number of capsizes
during the season!
At Datchet we all enjoy sailing our catamarans and
the friendly atmosphere that has been created. If you are new to
multi-hull sailing and would like to know more, please come along and make
your self known. Someone will point you in the direction of our fleet
captain who's job it is to help you enjoy yourself in our friendly sailing
club.
For more information, please contact the Club Office
or send an e-mail to sailing@dwsc.co.uk
and ask for the Fleet Captain to make contact.
