The Datchet Laser 4000 fleet is the largest and most active 4000
fleet in the country [probably!]. It’s also the 2nd largest fleet at
Datchet with over 40 boats (surpassed only by the Laser class). As a
result, you can expect great fleet racing both with other 4000s and with
the other asymmetric classes at the club.
During the summer, it’s not unusual to get 5-6 boats for Sunday
morning racing, and throughout the winter, we regularly get in to double
figures as a significant proportion of the travelling contingent from
the UK circuit use Datchet as their Winter base, attracted by the number
of boats and the windward-leeward courses.
However, if you’re new to the boat, don’t get the impression that
we’re all the ‘professionals’. The club attracts plenty of people
new to the 4000, and you’ll generally always be able to find someone
who can help you rig your new kite correctly, or give you the tips you
need to get up the beat faster (or keep the boat upright on the
gybes!)/p>
With 475 acres of open uninterrupted sailing water, and some of the
best winds around, Datchet offers the very best in inland Laser 4000
sailing. Come and try for yourself!
