This is an area of the club web site
which will grow into providing information about Race Management at
Datchet and links to other sites with relevant information.
It is intended that the Club Race Officer Manual
is made available in electronic format, the possible formats being Adobe
Acrobat or Microsoft Word. The Club Race Officer Manual is currently
undergoing a re-write to take into account changes in club
procedure and major restructuring, following a realisation that the
order of information presentation was not related to the order a Race
Officer & Team carry out tasks!
The club has had a 'black box' device, stored in a
yellow box, to provide the Race Team with a means of automatically
sounding the sound signals at 3 minute intervals and also recording the
time each boat finishes, when the Race Officer signals that the boat has
finished. However this equipment was rarely used in recent years because
it has had problems; unfortunately old age, it is now approaching 20
years old, have made it so unreliable that it cannot be used.
A specification was put together for a replacement
system that would run on a PC, this was taken up by a student as a final
year project. Unfortunately the student did not pass the program over to
Datchet and it has therefore been lost.
A club member has written a program being called
PROlog. This was tested for the first time for Club racing on
Sunday 22nd December 2002 and worked exceptionally well. More
testing & training of race teams is to be undertaken before it is
available for general use. PROlog is a valuable addition to the
facilities available to a race officer and can be available on both club
committee boats. Any one wanting instruction it the use of PROlog is
encouraged to ask.
There is an alternative called RaceDay, but is
more difficult to use in the opinion of the WebMaster!
