Children welcome the Monday Club

The kids from Summer Camp 3 got off to a flying start yesterday and kept the visiting local Datchet Monday Club thoroughly entertained. As they enjoyed their afternoon tea the Monday Club found watching the children learning to sail great fun! After an action packed day the children went and chatted to the the Monday Club about all the excitement they had – a fun day for everyone involved!

Team Datchet at the Laser 4.7 Worlds

Written by Club Members Mark Lyttle and Rob Thomas.

Here live at the Laser 4.7 worlds in Nieupoort, Belgium, four young Datchet sailors are competing with the top sailors from 45 countries in their first Laser Worlds event.

Connie Stevens, Zach Lyttle, David Calder and Josh Thomas finished their first day of racing yesterday with challenging wind over tide conditions in the North Sea. Today as they sail a mile down the ship canal from the KYNC sailing club to the race area on the sea, they face stiffer conditions with winds gusting up to 29 knots in what is expected to be the most challenging day of the event.

Our 13-15 year old sailors are facing very stiff competition along with the other GBR sailors at the event against 350 sailor entries in this under 18 event.

With five more days of racing, there will be plenty of news and stories so we will keep you posted !

Team Datchet at the World Of Opportunities Program (WOOP) STEM Careers Event

Today team Datchet attended the  World Of Opportunities Program (WOOP) STEM Careers Event at Computer Associates. 500 students attended from 12 different schools in the local area. There was a lot of interest generated by the stand and great enthusiasm expressed by the students in the learn to sail programme. Teachers came along to discuss how Datchet could be more involved with their schools as part of pre-existing schemes such as DofE and P.E. The team used the opportunity to network with the other companies invited to the event and set up potential corporate days in the future. Furthermore, the event allowed bonds to build between DWSC and the local community businesses who are allowing us to advertise within them.  One school teacher signed up to a power boat course on the day and many more contact details were generated by the extremely successful event.
