Sailing Committee meeting coming up

The next Sailing Committee meeting is on 23rd November. Talk to your ‘sailing community representative’ about anything you think we should be discussing. The minutes from the last meeting are on the club website (SC minutes) and there is a new page (SC homepage) explaining what the Sailing Committee does, how it does it, and how you can get involved. Please do get in touch if you are interested in learning more or finding out how you can get involved.

Reminder to sign up for 11th December

Sunday morning racing will be replaced by the Datchet Flyer on 11th December, but there is an opportunity to run afternoon club racing if there is sufficient demand. If interested, please fill in the form by the sign sheets or let the office know your name, boat name and number (by 27th November). Unless there are 15 requests or more, club racing will not take place.

No club sailing this weekend

This is a reminder that Datchet will be hosting the Optimist Winter Championship this coming weekend (19/20 November) and there will be no club sailing as we are expecting over 200 keen young sailors. If you are able to help on either day, please let the office know

Cowboy claims Castle Cup

Last weekend was the first time for 11 months that we competed for the Castle Cup (Sunday 13th). It was a lovely sunny day and there was a little more wind than expected so a good time was had by all, despite some rather unconventional choices by the race team… that is, until it was time to recover, when John decided his trailer needed to visit the bottom of the reservoir. Hopefully, the police divers will recover it when they are training this week

Despite the lovely weather, there were very few club boats out but 4 Flying Fifteens shared the water with loads of visiting Laser 4.7’s and Optimists (several of whom joined the club – future competition?). Any of 3 could have won (with Mervyn ruling out himself and ace lightweight crew Ruth with two awful starts) – but Mike and Peter came to the front and won their first trophy in only their second week racing Vaquero. Congratulations to them.

Sunday was also the last day of the Autumn Series and Fleet Championship – once the results are finalised in the club website, I’ll announce who has won!

Some important news – and some interesting stuff too!

  • No club sailing next weekend

Datchet is hosting the Optimist Winter Championship next week and because more than 200 Oppies are expected, there will be no club sailing or racing.

If you have some time to spare, please come along on Saturday morning to help marshal the Oppies (and their parents!) and/ or on Sunday morning to help lift Hakuna Kutoa Katika back onto her trailer (hopefully!).

  • A reminder of other upcoming events

27th November – Start of Winter Series.

N.B. 11am starts over the Winter, with a change of start order = if there are fewer than 5 FF’s we will be in the first start (warning signal at 10.57), if there are 5 or more of us, then we will have our own start (as the 3rd start)

4th December – FF fleet AGM after sailing

10th & 11th December – Datchet Flyer

18th December – Xmas Special and Lunch

That’s all for this week – I’m hoping for a photo of a green trailer for the next update…
