Sunday 5th February saw 5 Flying Fifteens on the start line (Nick, Mike, Charles, Roger, and Gavin) which meant we had our own start. Mike Clapp was so keen to get out there he launched with his rudder cover on! I am sure we would have told him but luckily he realised before he left the pontoon.
Sergio (the potential new FF from Queen Mary) came and joined us for coffee and also to crew for Charles Apthorp who very kindly agreed to show Sergio the ropes.
A very large course was set in shifty conditions typical of Datchet with Charles taking the first race with Mike Clapp a very close second. The new loos gauge that Mike had invested in must have worked as the second race was a battle all the way round with Mike and Charles changing places throughout the 2 laps. Mike in the end retained his lead beating Charles over the line in a very well sailed and deserving win of the second race.
Nick and I came 3rd in both races, we have put in a request to borrow the loos gauge next week and hope it works as well for us!
We hope to see more of you out next week sailing and joining us afterwards in the clubhouse to watch the rugby (France V Scotland) from 3pm
So you don’t forget, it is only 4 weeks to the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show on the 4th and 5th March at Alexander Palace – please put it in your diaries and come along.
If you need crew or perhaps you are available to crew please let Maxine know maxineannoliver
